Over recent years there has been much confusion about certainly one of Belle Isle's many institutions: the Casino. this is not a gambling casino, but uses that old sense of the term, an area for "public entertainments." This Casino has been used for this specific purpose since the original structure was built in the 1880s, becoming a gathering location for Detroiters for generations.
The first building being called the Casino was integrated 1887, as Belle Isle was being turned into a municipal park. It was constructed to carry events, bazaars, and things of that nature, which its successor principal purpose is to do also. The original building burnt down during the early 1900s.
The original building was replaced in 1907 which has a building developed by the firm of Van Leyen and Schilling. This building has continued to serve its read more function successfully for well over 10 years now, and its future seems to get secure well to the future, inspite of the problems that Belle Isle has received in recent years.
